About the site

Woodsome play area is located within the Batley West ward of Kirklees. It is a small community play area situated within the centre of Woodsome Estate. This site has been highlighted by local councillors as the next within the ward to be to be redeveloped within the Playable Spaces programme.

We asked the Woodsome Estate community last year what improvements they would like to see within the play area. Based on the feedback received, we have created a proposed design for Woodsome play area.

Project overview

Feedback from the initial engagement was the play area is popular with local children but the equipment is tired and the surfacing is in poor condition. There was also suggestions for a football goal.

The proposed improvements include:

  • Converting the existing sports court into a football court with a goal-end and new line markings.
  • Repairs to the tarmac surface within the proposed football court.
  • Overlaying the safety surfacing under the existing play equipment with new safety surfacing.
  • Retaining and refurbishing the existing swing set and re-painting them for new a bright and colourful colour scheme.
  • Retaining and refurbishing the existing climbing frames and re-painting them for new a bright and colourful colour scheme.
  • Retaining and refurbishing the existing benches and re-painting them for new a bright and colourful colour scheme.

We would be grateful for your feedback on these proposals to make sure these improvements meet the needs of the local community. The proposals are a draft at this stage and can be adjusted to accommodate your suggestions and/or concerns where practicable.
