What we offer

The venue

Red House, a Grade II* Listed 1830s cloth merchant's home, is a delightful romantic setting for your wedding ceremony.

Now a museum, it is the former home of the Taylor family and has fascinating connections to the famous Brontë family. Author Charlotte Brontë visited often and featured Red House as Briarmains in her 1849 novel Shirley.

Red House features stunning period rooms and an enchanting restored period garden.

Ceremonies at Red House can take place in either the Parlour or the Hall, both are equally beautiful rooms with their own romantic atmosphere.

For more intimate wedding ceremonies we also have the dining room and the study available, please discuss your requirements with our wedding coordinator.

Ceremonies in the Hall

The elegant Hall can accommodate 25 guests with space for a further 10 guests on the balcony. The bride's entrance is down the staircase which leads directly into the Hall.

Red House will be decorated on the day of your ceremony with silk garland flowers in neutral tones of greens and ivory. We also offer a complimentary basket of petals which can be used by your guests for confetti.

It is the responsibility of the bride and groom to contact the registry office to ensure that the registrar is available on the chosen date.

Charlotte Brontë describes this room in her novel Shirley: "There was no splendour but there was taste everywhere."

The Parlour can accommodate 20 guests for a ceremony. Limited restricted viewing can be offered from the Hall, please discuss numbers with the wedding coordinator.

You will need to provide your own refreshments, alcoholic or otherwise, for example Champagne in the Hall or tea and cake on the lawn.

This option is provided at an additional hire charge - please see price list for details.
