Teaching in the classroom
There is a range of courses available about:
  • training for work and gaining qualifications
  • brushing up communication skills
  • managing money
  • using maths or IT (Information Technology)
  • developing a new skill or personal interest
  • family learning
  • learning the skills to volunteer or help a local community group.

Has a database that you can search for courses. It also contains information to support learners and those who offer information, advice and guidance to anyone who wants to begin or continue learning. All courses shown are Level 2 and below.

Advice, and help with the cost of learning

Painting pottery
  • Some courses are free.
  • For other courses you may be able to get help with course fees, childcare and other costs; this depends on your circumstances.
  • If you are unemployed and receiving a means-tested benefit there is often help available.
  • If you have few or no qualifications a number of courses are free.
Adult Learning Grant (external site)
You may qualify for an Adult Learning Grant. You need to be:
  • 19 or over
  • Studying at least 12 hours a week
  • Doing your first full level 2 (for example 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C, or an NVQ2, or equivalent) or level 3 qualification.
HEAP (Higher Education Access Point) (external site)
Advice about higher education. Offers help and guidance in choosing a course and career that is right for you.
Kirklees Passport
Priority passport holders are eligible for discounts on certain part-time courses at colleges and adult education centres throughout Kirklees.
Professional and Career Development Loans (external site)
A Career Development Loan is a bank loan designed to help you pay for work-related learning. You don't have to start paying your loan back until one month after you stop training.
