More information
Speed limits
- If you ask for a speed limit to be lowered, raised or extended:
- we ask the police for their view.
- we also consider things like the road's alignment, level of activity, its accident record and the impact of speeding vehicles on the community.
- A Speed limit Order to change a speed limit takes approximately 9 months to complete.
Road safety training for children
- Our pedestrian training scheme involves a number of sessions with each child near a road over several weeks. It aims to reduce child pedestrian casualties and to improve their skills, knowledge, behaviour and hazard awareness.
- Cycling training is aimed at children aged 10 years and over. It teaches basic cycle skills on quiet roads near to school. Courses usually take place over 4 or 5 consecutive sessions. Each session lasts about 1½ hours. Children must own their own cycle to take part. Helmets and fluorescent jackets are provided.
Dangerous road junctions
- We monitor accident data provided by West Yorkshire Police to highlight where clusters of accidents occur.
- We investigate requests for the introduction of safety schemes, but our priority is dealing with areas where accidents are occurring now.
Temporary traffic lights
- Streetworks and roadworks with temporary traffic lights have a courtesy board placed by the developer that is carrying out the works.
- The board tells you the company name and their telephone number to contact if you have anything to report or request.
