Get involved
We want you to help shape your community. Here's how you can get involved:
Kirklees Homes and Neighbourhoods Tenant Voice Strategy
Our new Get Involved strategy sets out the council's continued commitment to engage with tenants, to involve you in the decisions which affect your homes, communities and to improve the delivery of housing services. Learn more about how we want to make it easier for more people to 'get involved' with our Get Involved strategy.
Tenant Led Panel
The Tenant Led Panel was set up in 2024 which forms part of our formal governance structure and ensures that Kirklees Council has the appropriate arrangements to meet its regulatory obligations for tenants. More information is available on the Tenant Led Panel page.
Tenants and Residents Associations (TRAs)
- A TRA is a group of people who get together to work to improve the area in which they live and build community spirit.
- They campaign for better services, improvements to the environment and tenants' homes and organise activities that bring people closer together.
- We work very closely with TRAs in delivering their services and monitoring how well they are doing.
Street Voice
- A Street Voice is someone who has agreed to represent their neighbours views to us and are the link between us and residents.
- They may be asked to pass out information to residents, speak to them about local issues and feed back views so that we are able to understand what it is like to live there.
Fire safety champion
- Fire Safety Champions support the Council's commitment to involve residents helping to make the council's higher risk residential blocks a safer place to live.
- They feed back to the council any concerns in their block relating to fire safety.
- Take part in block inspections with Housing Management Officers to monitor communal areas ensuring they are well kept and safe.
Neighbourhood forums
- Neighbourhood forums are a great way to keep up to date with what is going on.
- We organise the forums four times a year with TRAs, SVs and Fire Safety Champions who come together to identify issues and to influence local housing priorities and services.
Surveys
- We use surveys to collect and record information about particular issues.
- • We use them when we want to measure satisfaction with particular things, collect factual information or get people's opinions.
- We will undertake surveys face-to-face, by telephone, by post, email.
Community grants and activities
- We have a Tenant Voice Team who are responsible for working with tenants and residents on a range of activities to improve the environment, community safety and community spirit.
- They also can provide access to local and regional grants.
