About the site
Howden Clough Recreation Ground located within the Birstall and Birkenshaw ward of Kirklees. It is a community park and recreation ground situated between Leeds Road and Howden Clough Estate. This site has been highlighted by local councillors as the next within the ward to be to be redeveloped within the Playable Spaces programme.

Project overview
Before creating a design we collected feedback from the local community and park users about what changes they would like to see at Howden Clough Recreation Ground, with a focus on improving access to play and the type of play available.
Based on the feedback received, we have developed a design and went back to the community to ask for their thoughts.
The proposed design aims to:
- Improve accessibility through introducing new safety surfacing
- Refurbish the existing swing set
- Introduce new play equipment: swings, climbing unit, see-saw, and a bench for seating
The design was well received, and the following design will now be implemented on site:
