About the site

Spen Lane, Aspen Close and Priory Court are 3 Play Areas located in the Liversedge & Gomersal Ward.

Spen Lane is the larger community park, with Aspen Close and Priory Court being smaller greenspaces with minimal play value opportunities.

The Playable Spaces programme has funding to develop the play offer in the area and, together with Local Ward Councillors, we have created a proposal for each site.

The design process

The new designs aim to make the play provision in the area more appealing and accessible to all age groups and a variety of abilities by using different play equipment types and features. They also seeks to maximise the funding available by creating one central flagship space to play at the Spen Lane site, whilst ensuring that the spaces at 2 smaller greenspace areas remain well maintained and accessible.

With the Spen Lane / Priory Court / Aspen Close cluster, we are focusing the bulk of the funding investment into the Spen Lane site as it has the most potential to offer a wide ranging play offer.

That being said, some remedial works will be required at Priory Court and Aspen Close. Aspen Close will be maintained solely as a greenspace (with play being removed) and Priory Court will become more of a walk-through play/green space with minimal play components but still offering some play and community value.

The design for Spen Lane will focus on the enhancement and extension of play and be the focal play site for the area. The 3 sites have been designed simultaneously so as that any play value lost at the smaller sites is reintroduced at the larger site.

The proposals are a draft at this stage and can be adjusted to accommodate suggestions and/or concerns where appropriate and practicable.
