As an unaccompanied asylum seeker, you will have the same rights as any other former relevant young person once you have received your leave to remain.

Unaccompanied asylum seekers over 18 are not automatically entitled to health care or education. This will depend on your legal status.

We will make sure all unaccompanied asylum-seeking and refugee children have somewhere suitable and safe to stay.

If you have religious beliefs, we will respect them and work with you to create a plan which meets your religious and cultural needs.

You will be supported to access legal advice to support you with your asylum claim.

If you receive your leave to remain

You will be provided with a National Insurance number and will have the right to work in the UK. You will also be able to access Universal Credit and local authority housing.

Once you receive your leave to remain you will be provided with a travel document.

If you do not receive your leave to remain

If you do not receive your leave to remain and your appeal is negative, you will become all rights exhausted. At this point a human rights assessment will be completed to determine if support should be offered from The Leaving Care Team or alternative agencies.

If you require support

If you require support with your emotional wellbeing specific to your asylum journey, referrals can be made for therapeutic support specific to your needs.

If you would like support to contact your family, this can be done with the support of your Personal Advisor or social worker via the Red Cross.

There are many charities and organisations that can offer support such as:
